Roar desperate for win

The Hyundai A-League strugglers won plenty of friends with their spirited and adventurous performance in pushing leaders Sydney FC all the way in Sunday’s 2-1 loss at the SFS.

But with his club now languishing equal bottom of the table following four consecutive losses, Postecoglou admits he will be happy for his attack-minded team to play more conservatively if it means a win over the Jets at Suncorp Stadium.

“I’m super proud of their effort (against Sydney) but we don’t want to be a side that makes excuses,” he said.

“We didn’t win and we’ve got to turn that around pretty quickly.”

“We’ve got a home game Friday and we have to win.”

“They set a standard (on Sunday) in terms of effort and organisation and discipline and we’ve now got to live up to that.”

Asked how his team would go about halting a four-match slide, the new Brisbane boss declared: “We’ve got to find a way to win and if we keep putting those efforts in that will happen, I’ve got no doubt about that.”

“We’ve got to go out there Friday night and put the same sort of effort, have the same sort of discipline and organisation.”

“If you do that I’m sure it will turn around for us. If you knock on the door often enough, you will get in at some stage.”

“I don’t think it’s too far away for us.”

Brisbane’s task has been made more difficult by the loss of striker Reinaldo to a hamstring strain.

The Brazilian limped out of the Sydney game early in the second half and looks set to miss at least a fortnight of football.
