Perth Glory Football Club and Football West have appointed experienced football mentor John Gibson as the Perth Glory Women’s Head Coach for the Westfield W-League 2009 season.
Mr Gibson is the current Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) Women-s head coach, and previously held roles with the Westfield Young Matildas, Qantas Young Socceroos and Australian Institute of Sport, and will bring a wealth of coaching knowledge to the elite women-s football team in WA.
Gibson, who played for the Australian Under 23 team at the Barcelona Olympics as well as more than 300 games in the National Soccer League, will be announcing his 20 player squad in the next few weeks, and is excited about the opportunity ahead.
“I am looking forward to beginning training once the team is chosen, I know that there are a lot of talented female players in WA and I am excited about working with the team to get them well and truly ready for the 2009/10 W-League season.”
Football West Education and Development Manager, Andrew Bettell, said Gibson was a standout choice to lead Glory Womens Team in its second season.
“John has been a fantastic addition to the sport in WA with his work with the WAIS scholarship holders, and we are excited to have him on board to coach this year-s W-League team,” Mr Bettell said.
The Perth Glory Women-s team just missed the finals in their inaugural campaign, winning three matches and drawing two of their ten games and will be looking to secure a play-off berth this time around.
