Central Coast kicked off its first Asian Champions League campaign with a scoreless draw against the Pohang Steelers in Gosford on Wednesday night.
The Mariners were slow out of the blocks but warmed to the task midway through the first half at Bluetongue Stadium.
The Mariners had big claims for a penalty turned down after Hyojin Choi appeared to handle the ball in the box after 23 minutes but the home team then created several chances.
Striker Matt Simon had a great chance to open the scoring but shot straight at the Steelers goalkeeper in the 26th minute.
The Socceroo then had two more chances before the break but could not capitalise.
Chances were few and far between in the second half with both goalkeepers rarely tested.
Both teams kept pushing forward to find a winner but had to settle for a share of the points in front of 6870 spectators.
