Injuries strike Roar

Queensland Roar could be without Tahj Minniecon and Luke DeVere for its remaining minor round games in the Hyundai A-League season.

Both players were injured during the Roar’s 0-0 draw with Adelaide United on Wednesday – Minniecon leaving the pitch with a hip flexor problem after an hour while DeVere ‘tweaked’ his hamstring in the dying minutes of the contest.

Queensland coach Frank Farina said the injuries were ‘costly’ with his side still eyeing off a top-two position.

Farina expects Minniecon will be out for two weeks while DeVere’s injury will be assessed further on Thursday.

“I don’t know how bad it (DeVere’s hamstring) is. Unfortunately it was in the last two minutes which is always a pain in the arse,” he said.

Meanwhile, Farina said the Roar was more proactive than the Reds in their Hindmarsh Stadium stalemate.

“I thought we created the better opportunities, the better chances ….but we didn’t take them,” he said.

“I was very surprised in the manner that Adelaide came out, particularly the first half but that’s the way they’ve been playing.”

“I thought they sat back and really tried to play the counter which they are very good at.”

“I don’t think the onus should have been on us to force the game but we did and we try to win it.”
