Korea-bound Sasa Ognenovski has two more goals he’d like to achieve before leaving Australia – winning the Hyundai A-League championship and wearing the green and gold for the Socceroos.
After weeks of speculation, Ognenovski finally signed with Korean club Seongnam last Saturday and is now looking forward to the rest of the domestic season.
The 29-year-old said he’s focused on helping Adelaide United finish top in 2008-09 despite his recent off-field distractions.
“I’m excited about the move but obviously still concentrating on what the job is at hand here. We’ve still got a long way to go although we are in a good position,” he said.
“We really have to keep our composure and play to our best.”
“I’m the type of person that once I jump out on the park you forget about those things. I’m not going to come into a game thinking about, are they going to let me go, I’ve just got to keep playing the way I’m playing and concentrate on that.”
“Off the field obviously you can think about whatever you like but on the field you’ve still got to concentrate on the task.”
The former Queensland Roar player said he’d also like a chance to represent his country.
That opportunity could come later this month when the Socceroos play Indonesia in an Asian Cup qualifier on January 28. National team coach Pim Verbeek is set to use plenty of Hyundai A-League players for the clash.
Ognenovski admits he’s in career-best from but hasn’t caught the attention of national selectors before.
“It would be nice but I’m not holding my breath because I haven’t made any of the squads up until now,” he said.
“If it happens it would be a great honour. If it doesn’t then what can I do about it, I’m not the coach or the selector.”
“That’s one thing in my CV that I haven’t got and hopefully it comes. All I can do is play the way I’m playing and if that’s not good enough for them they can pick other players.”
