Defender Manny Muscat has signed a one-year deal with Wellington Phoenix, the club announced on Monday.
Muscat, a product of the Victorian Premier League in Australia, joined the New Zealand-based club in July as a short-term replacement for Vince Lia, whose 2008-09 Hyundai A-League campaign ended in July when he suffered a serious knee injury.
The 13th player to be locked away by the club for next season and beyond, Muscat has finally achieved his dream of becoming a full-time professional.
“It’s very exciting for me. The club has shown its faith and it’s my job now to repay that,” he said.
“My aim was to come to Wellington, work hard and hope for an opportunity. Thankfully I was given that opportunity. My aim for the future is to continue working hard and improving my game.”
