Queensland Roar Women will aim to maintain their 100 per cent away record when they travel to Campbelltown to play the Central Coast Mariners this weekend.
The Roar will go into the game confident following their first away match against Newcastle on Saturday which ended 2-0 to the visitors.
Ellen Beaumont opened the scoring for the Roar before Matildas midfielder Lauren Colthorpe sealed the victory in the dying stages of the game.
Colthorpe said the slippery Lismore conditions may have actually helped the team.
“It was pretty wet, but the ball travelled quickly and that suited us,” she said.
“We were able to knock it around a bit more”.
Following her first goal of the season against Adelaide in round one, Colthorpe-s second on Saturday was special for a different reason.
The Newcastle-born, New South Wales Institute of Sport graduate stung many former team mates with her 20-metre strike which beat Jets ‘keeper Alison Logue.
“I copped a bit of stick even before the game and at the end,” Colthorpe said.
“Their captain Cheryl Salisbury, who is also the Matildas captain, just stared at me and frowned.
“I got a message from the coach as well after the game as well giving me a bit of stick,” she laughed.
Another win this weekend against the Mariners would provide vital momentum ahead of two home games against Melbourne and Sydney in the following weeks.
“This Saturday is really important,” she explained “Central Coast have won their last couple of games and they are in our pool.”
Both teams will be desperate to get maximum points and break away from the competition which has five teams locked at the top of the table on six points.
“It is very important to get in as many wins as you can. It is a short competition and one loss can really cost you.”
Kick off on Saturday, 15 November is at 6pm AEDT at Campbelltown Stadium, Campbelltown.
The Roar then return home to play Melbourne Victory on Saturday, 22 November.
