Football Federation Australia (FFA) this afternoon announced the outcome of the deliberations of the independent Match Review Panel into the Red Card issued to Ney Fabiano of Melbourne Victory.
Fabiano was issued with a Red Card in the 29th minute of Friday night’s Hyundai A-League match between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United for spitting at a player (R3 offence).
The Match Review Panel firstly considered the appeal submitted by Fabiano on the grounds of an obvious error in application. The appeal was dismissed.
As the minimum sanction for spitting at a player is five matches plus the mandatory match suspension, the Match Review Panel has referred the matter for hearing and determination to the independent Disciplinary Committee for a hearing to be convened in Sydney in the evening of Wednesday 17 September 2008.
The hearing will be open to interested media subject to media representatives agreeing to certain terms and conditions. Media will be informed of hearing details by noon Wednesday.
