Taggart: ‘Great chance’ to turn things around against Perth

Brisbane Roar striker Adam Taggart is hungry to wipe the slate clean, and turn his side’s Hyundai A-League campaign around, as Perth Glory visit Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Roar return to Suncorp following three consecutive away games, during which their head coach John Aloisi resigned and the side shipped eight goals.

The task doesn’t get any easier for Brisbane facing an in-form Perth Glory who are coming off the back of a 4-1 victory over Central Coast Mariners.

Despite this, Taggart insisted the big fixture, along with Brisbane’s Summer of Heroes schedule, are the perfect springboards for progress.

“It’s a massive opportunity for us — Perth has everything to lose being top of the league so I think it’s a great chance for all of us to really try string together a couple of strong team performances,” Taggart told brisbaneroar.com.au

“I think it’s a good thing (the short turnaround).

“It gives you a new opportunity and a fresh start. Sometimes the seven/eight-day turnarounds can be tough mentally.”

Taggart has seven goals in 11 games for Brisbane and got on the scoresheet as Brisbane drew 2-2 with Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The Roar fell early to a sublime solo effort  by Dimi Petratos but restored parity twice thanks to goals by Taggart and Eric Beautheac.

“It was a good team goal, I thought both were,” said Taggart.

“In the second half, we were a lot more offensive and got a lot more people forward which makes it easier as a striker, you can start making runs without three people marking you.

“Not only mine and Eric’s goals against Newcastle, but also Matt’s goal against Sydney FC is the kind of thing we had been working on all pre-season so it was nice to see that pay off.”
