Italian international arrives in Melbourne ahead of Western United FC signing

Western United FC are officially set to announce the signing of Italian star Alessandro Diamanti on Thursday morning.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that the 36-year-old attacker has arrived in Melbourne ahead of his unveiling as their newest signing.

Diamanti will front the media as a Western United FC player on Thursday, where he will join up with teammates at the club’s Caroline Springs training base.

Coach Mark Rudan will present the former Italian international with his jersey before he commences pre-season training with the club.

The Hyundai A-League newcomers had been linked with the former West Ham attacker for a few weeks, cryptically posting a tweet of a diamond on Tuesday night, sparking speculation the signing was imminent.

Diamanti’s arrival in Melbourne will see him link up with former teammate at Bologna and Brescia in Italy in fellow Western United import Panagiotis Kone.

United, who officially began pre-season training last week, now have 20 players signed ahead of their maiden campaign in the competition.
