Izzo commits to Adelaide United with new multi-year deal

Adelaide United continue to lock away their biggest stars, re-signing goalkeeper Paul Izzo on a two-year contract extension on Friday.

Izzo was off-contract at the end of the current season but his new deal will keep him at the Reds until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2021/22 Season.

It comes just a day after Adelaide United also re-signed the versatile Ryan Kitto to a new two-year contract.

Izzo, 24, has became one of the competition’s premier shot-stoppers in his time at the club, making 70 appearances in all competitions.

He has been instrumental in Adelaide’s success in recent seasons, including back-to-back triumphs in the FFA Cup.

“I couldn’t be happier to have signed this contract extension with Adelaide United,” Izzo tols the Reds’ official website

“Playing in front of your family and closest friends week in, week out is an amazing feeling and something I’ve always appreciated.

“Being an Adelaide boy and playing here for so much of my career has been really enjoyable and I’m sure that’s going to continue.

“Winning back-to-back FFA Cups was an unreal experience but as a group we’re hungry for more and I’m looking forward to creating even more history for the club in the coming seasons.”

Adelaide United Director of Football Bruce Djite says Izzo’s re-signing is huge for the club, expecting him to go to another level in coming seasons.

“For a goalkeeper, Paul is still very young, but to have made more than 100 appearances in the A-League alone makes him a very experienced member of our squad,” Djite said.

“Paul is highly regarded and we expect to see him consistently deliver outstanding performances.

“We value Paul’s quality both as a footballer and more importantly as a person and we’re delighted to secure another great South Australian talent to the club for another two years.”

The Reds have the bye in the Hyundai A-League in Round 4, returning to action next weekend with a home clash against Brisbane Roar on Sunday, November 10.
