The upcoming round of the Hyundai A-League, as well as the Westfield Matildas v Chile international friendly will once again be dedicated to remembering and acknowledging the service men and women who sacrificed their lives during times of conflict.
The annual ‘Remembrance Round’, is a joint initiative between Football Federation Australia (FFA), the Hyundai A-League Clubs and the Australian Defence Force (ADF), to raise awareness of Remembrance Day nationally, recognise the contribution of ADF personnel, and utilise the Hyundai A-League and the Westfield Matildas as a vehicle to effect meaningful social change by shining a spotlight on the significance of Remembrance Day.
Remembrance Round is a significant opportunity to be able to commemorate Remembrance Day with the ADF, RSL (Returned & Services League of Australia), and the Football Community in Australia.
FFA’s Head of League’s, Greg O’Rourke, is proud that the Hyundai A-League clubs and the Westfield Matildas will once again honour those that have defended Australia in conflicts around the world .
“Each year we recognise all those that have served in the armed services for their country during Remembrance Round,” said O’Rourke.
“In particular we remember all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice during their service. It is because of these people that we are able to enjoy the freedoms that we have today in our society.
“The League, Our clubs, players and fans are united in our appreciation for all who have served and who are currently serving our nation, concluded O’Rourke.
All matches throughout Remembrance Round will include a full pre-match remembrance ceremony featuring a Bugler, Flag Raising, the Ode, a Guard of Honour and the National Anthem.
During Remembrance Round, each Hyundai A-League club will wear playing kit embellished with the poppy which will be later auctioned off with all profits to go towards a local RSL chosen by the club.
Fans will be also able to support “The Poppy Appeal” at each matchday by making a donation which will go towards improving services for veterans. Each donation will help provide specialist services like crisis accommodation and health and wellbeing programs to thousands of veterans and their families.
