Berisha aims to cross a new frontier in United’s clash with Phoenix

He’s the Hyundai A-League greatest-ever scorer, banging in goals for every club and at almost every ground he has played at.

But Besart Berisha has the chance to add another venue to his long list of grounds he has scored at when Western United FC host Wellington Phoenix at Mars Stadium in Ballarat on Saturday.

“I’m definitely looking forward to Ballarat, to come down there, and hopefully I am able to score the goal there,” Berisha said on United’s official website.

“I love celebrating in different places…I hope I can have this moment to celebrate at the Ballarat stadium and with the people down there.”

Berisha is United’s leading scorer so far this season with six for the campaign for the competition’s third-place side.

The first of those six goals came in the very first match, a memorable and historic 1-0 triumph over the Phoenix in Wellington in the club’s inaugural game in Round 1.

While United are on a three-game unbeaten run, Phoenix have hit their best form over the last couple of months, surging into the top six on the back of six games without defeat.

It places huge importance on this home clash for Mark Rudan’s troops, who are aiming to keep pace with the top two in Sydney FC and Melbourne City.

United have played all six of their previous home games at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong but are heading further west to Ballarat for one of four matches at the venue this season.

“We are really excited to come to Ballarat and hopefully it’s going to be a great game for us and something to celebrate for the Ballarat fans too,” Berisha said.

“It’s great for the city I think…it’s really special because a lot of people are not working at this time so it’s a great atmosphere.

“Everybody is excited, we are doing well at the club and I think it’s the perfect timing to come to Ballarat and try to have a good game down there.”
