Western Sydney Wanderers forward Lynn Williams scored and set up another goal as United States commenced their Olympic Games qualifying campaign with a big 4-0 win over Haiti in Houston on Wednesday.
Williams was the star of the show as the Americans cruised past the nation ranked in the 68th in the opening game of the CONCACAF qualifiers.
The 26-year-old set up Christen Press after just 75 seconds after sending in a sublime cross for the Utah Royals forward to finish off – remarkably despite losing her left shoe in the build up.
“I got the ball and she (the Haiti defender) stepped on the back on my shoe, so it gave me a flat tire,” Williams later told Pro Soccer USA.
“So the next step I took, my shoe was half on and I was like, ‘I can’t run with half a shoe.’

“I decided to take it off and thank goodness it worked out when I planted it and I didn’t slip.”
After regaining her boot Williams continued to torment the Haitian defence and doubled the advantage for Vlatko Andonovski’s side by heading home Megan Rapinoe’s corner on the hour mark.
That was the striker’s seventh goal for the national team in 22 appearances.
United States continue their qualification campaign against Panama on Saturday before taking on Costa Rica on Tuesday.
Williams – who is on loan with Western Sydney from National Women’s Soccer League powerhouse North Carolina Courage – has missed the past three Wanderers matches but will be raring to go for the club’s all-important Sydney derby against rivals Sydney FC on February 15.
Williams helped orchestrate a remarkable 5-0 thrashing of the Sky Blues in December, scoring a brace.
She has scored four goals and tallied three assists in five matches for Dean Heffernan’s side this season.
