Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced the decision to reschedule two Westfield W-League 2019/20 Season – Round 12 fixtures.
This decision was made due to the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Tokyo 2020 Asian Qualifiers Final Round – Group B fixture between Australia and China PR which has been rescheduled to be played on Thursday 13 February (kick-off 7:30pm (AEDT)).
FFA Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, said that player welfare was the key priority when making these fixture changes.
“With 13 of the Westfield Matildas involved in these two fixtures (Melbourne City FC v Melbourne Victory & Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar FC), we had to amend the schedule to ensure that the players had an appropriate amount of recovery time between their international match on Thursday (13 February) and their Westfield W-League match,” said O’Rourke.
“Since Westfield W-League 2020 Finals Series positions are on the line, we believed that moving these matches to Sunday (16 February) would allow these players to be at their best when they play such important fixtures.
“I would like to thank Fox Sports, the clubs and other stakeholders for accommodating these changes at short notice due to these unique set of circumstances,” concluded O’Rourke.
