Victory blow: Injury ends Kruse’s season early

Melbourne Victory have confirmed that star attacker Robbie Kruse will miss the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season due to injury.

Kruse sustained an injury to his left knee while the team have been training in Sydney which is serious enough to rule him out of Victory’s remaining matches this campaign.

The 31-year-old will need to complete his mandatory 14-day isolation period in Sydney before heading to Queensland next week to see a specialist.

“This is disappointing news for Robbie, who was looking forward to taking part in the remainder of the season,” Victory’s General Manager Football Operations Paul Trimboli said.

“We’ll share a further update once we know more.”

Kruse’s injury is another blow for Victory and their interim boss Grant Brebner ahead of their first match this weekend since the competition’s resumption.

Victory skipper Ola Toivonen and German import Tim Hoogland have already finished up at the club during the Hyundai A-League’s Covid-19 hiatus.

The Navy Blues are in action on Saturday night when they take on Western United FC at Bankwest Stadium, kicking off at 7.35pm AEST.
