Adelaide United need to beat Melbourne City to give themselves the best chance of a return to the Hyundai A-League Finals Series.
The Reds suffered Semi-Final heartbreak after a penalty shootout loss to Perth Glory in 2019/20 and Carl Veart’s side have put themselves in contention for another top-six berth with their stellar form since the restart.
Sixth-placed Adelaide head into their final game of the campaign leading seventh-placed Western United by two points, but the competition newcomers still have three matches to play following the conclusion of the Reds’ season.
Anything less than a win will leave Adelaide’s finals hopes hanging by a thread – but Erick Mombaerts’ City will certainly be no pushovers.
The Victorians delivered a dominant 2-0 win over Premiers-elect, Sydney FC, in their only match since the lockdown was lifted – and three more points for City will secure second place and a first-round bye in the Finals Series.
Adelaide and City have shared a win apiece in their two league meetings this season, while the Reds romped to victory in a 4-0 FFA Cup Final demolition job back in October 2019.
