Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced that Chris Beath will referee the Hyundai A-League 2020 Grand Final between Sydney FC and Melbourne City FC at Bankwest Stadium on Sunday 30 August 2020 (kick-off 6:30pm (AEST).
Chris Beath will be joined by Assistant Referees Scott Edeling & Kearney Robinson, Alex King as the Fourth Official, Ryan Gallagher as Fifth Official and Kris Griffiths-Jones as the Video Assistant Referee.
FFA Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, congratulated Beath and all the match officials on their appointments to the Hyundai A-League 2020 Grand Final.
“Chris is one of our most experienced and internationally respected match officials,” said O’Rourke.
“This appointment is due recognition for his outstanding efforts throughout the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season and Hyundai A-League 2020 Finals Series.
“Our congratulations also go out to Scott, Kearney, Alex, Ryan and Kris who will form the match officials team for the Hyundai A-League 2020 Grand Final.
“With the two top teams from the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season now set to face each other we definitely expect a thrilling finish to the competition on Sunday,” concluded O’Rourke.
After refereeing 194 matches in the Hyundai A-League, this will be Chris Beath’s first appointment as the referee for a Hyundai A-League Grand Final having previously been a fourth official (2019) and Additional Assistant Referee (2016) for the Championship decider.
It was a special moment for Chris Beath to be advised of his appointment as the referee for the Hyundai A-League 2020 Grand Final.
“I’m really honoured and humbled to be appointed to the Hyundai A-League 2020 Grand Final,” said Beath.
“I’d like to thank my incredible family, FFA and the Refereeing Department for their support and commitment, especially during these challenges times.
“I wish both teams the very best for the match and look forward to kick off,” concluded Beath.
