Newcastle Jets host Melbourne City at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon with the visitors bereft of confidence after two losses in Matchweek 6.
City fell to a 3-1 defeat to Perth Glory before blowing a two-goal lead over Central Coast Mariners to lose 3-2 in Gosford in a forgettable Matchweek for Patrick Kisnorbo’s side.
The Jets, meanwhile, continued to show promising sides of uplift last time out with a second positive result in as many games, securing a come-from-behind 1-1 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers.
The draw followed on from Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix as Craig Deans’ team snapped a four-game losing run to start the 2020/21 A-League campaign.
City striker Jamie Maclaren has been in good form despite his team’s struggles. After going goalless in two games Maclaren has hit three in three to keep chase in the Golden Boot race – a feat Jets striker Roy O’Donovan will be hoping to replicate in this fixture after his two goals in his last two hit-outs have the new Australian citizen in red-hot form.
