A-League Goal of Matchweek 8 – Mark Milligan

Macarthur FC captain Mark Milligan has collected Goal of the Week honours for Matchweek 8, for his instinctive run and finish from a well-worked team goal against Adelaide United.

It caps off an eventful three-game stretch for the former Socceroos midfielder, who picked up a red card against Sydney FC before earning a place in the A-League Team of the Week for Matchweek 7 in his next appearance for the Bulls, against Brisbane Roar.

Milligan backed up his impressive outing against the Queensland side with a similarly solid showing against the Reds, scoring the third of his side’s goals in a 4-0 victory.

The goal came from a pass from Beñat Etxebarria designed to hit Milligan’s feet as he ventured into the final third. Milligan feinted an attempt at collecting the ball but let it run for Bulls striker Matt Derbyshire.

Jordan Elsey and George Timotheou converged to apply pressure but Derbyshire slipped between the Reds defenders to  play a first-time ball toward goal; Milligan had continued his run through midfield and strolled in to gather and shoot past James Delianov.
