Max Crocombe’s magnificent save to thwart Besart Berisha from close range in Melbourne Victory’s memorable clash with Western United has been awarded Save of Matchweek 10.
The reactive block beat a number of similar saves throughout the seven games of Matchweek 10 to claim the honours.
Crocombe’s save in the 28th minute kept Victory’s sheet clean and a 1-0 lead intact, before chaos reigned in the second half as United ended the derby fixture with a 4-3 lead over Crocombe’s side.
But with it all to play for in the first 45, Crocombe’s intervention to deny Berisha was a clutch display of athleticism and quick reactions which kept Victory on top.
Crocombe had just watched Iker Guarrotxena’s header cannon off his crossbar, but as the danger was repelled United threatened again, with Victor Sánchez finding Berisha at the back post with an inviting cross.
The United forward headed toward goal and his attempt looked destined to find the back of the net, but Crocombe stood tall, lifting a strong left arm to meet the ball and tip the effort around the post.
