A-League goal of Matchweek 12: Mitchell Duke, chosen by Robbie Slater

Western Sydney Wanderers striker Mitchell Duke scored a stunning goal in a stunning game to help his team win a crazy 4-3 encounter – with Duke’s goal selected by former Socceroo Robbie Slater as the best of the Matchweek.

Duke took a long pass on his chest on the edge of the box, controlled the ball and volleyed it still airborne into the top corner past Oliver Sail.

“This was one of the greatest games in A-League history, an honour to commentate on, and it had all the elements of great drama,” said Slater.

“The funny thing is that there were two goals that could have been goal of the round – there was Cam Devlin’s for Wellington, when he hit a blistering strike from well outside the box, right into the top corner.

“But there is something special about the way Duke was able to trap such a long pass, and retain the composure to hit the ball past Ollie Sail before he could even move.”
