“With more girls playing football than ever before, the Matildas flying high, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023TM on our doorstep, this is truly an extraordinary year for women’s football in Australia,” said A-Leagues CEO Danny Townsend.

“We have expanded the league by three teams and extended the women’s season to match international benchmarks, so we have all the ingredients in place for the women’s game to
explode as we have seen in leagues overseas.

“We want to secure a lasting legacy for women’s football, so we need everyone to get behind
the Liberty A-League Women and show the world the incredible talent and support that
exists here in Australia and New Zealand.”

Last season, Melbourne Victory conquered premiers Sydney FC to retain their Championship at Kogorah Oval.
