Over in the Liberty A-League, Emily van Egmond played the final game of her four-match guest stint as Newcastle Jets beat Western United 4-2 in an impressive display at the No.2 Sportsground before in-form Western Sydney Wanderers drew 1-1 Brisbane Roar.
The action concluded when high-flying Perth Glory drew 0-0 with titleholders Sydney FC at Macedonia Park.

MATCH REPORT: City & Mariners share the spoils as Torres scores three in thrilling six-goal Grand Final rematch
Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners have taken a point apiece from an epic Grand Final rematch, with Alessandro Lopane’s stoppage time equaliser denying the Mariners all three points in a 3-3 draw at AAMI Park.
City took a 1-0 lead into half-time after Marin Jakoliš struck the opener inside two minutes, before an avalanche of second-half action including a further five strikes – three of which scored by Mariners winger Ángel Torres.
The Colombian’s first and second goals came before Tolgay Arslan’s leveller at 2-2 for City – but Torres sealed his hat-trick in the 82nd minute to give the Mariners a 3-2 lead which they held until the 92nd minute. City substitute Lopane scored his first A-Leagues goal, and the sixth and final goal of the game, to snatch a point back for the hosts.

MATCH REPORT: Van Egmond stars in final game as Newcastle defeat Western United in six-goal classic
Two goals from Lauren Allan coupled with strikes from Sarina Bolden and Emily van Egmond helped Newcastle to a 4-2 win over Western United at No.2 Sportsground on Sunday afternoon.
Leading 1-0 at the break through Allan’s crisp strike, Newcastle found themselves pegged back early in the second-half care of a Chloe Logarzo penalty.
The impressive van Egmond then slotted her side back in front, finishing off a well worked move, however Western hit back almost immediately with a stunning goal from Stacey Papadopoulos.
In a game swinging from end-to-end, an incredible lob from Sarina Bolden made it 3-2 to the Jets before Lauren Allan’s late header wrapped up an impressive win for Gary van Egmond’s charges in Newcastle.

Sophie Harding’s sixth goal of the season ensured the points were shared between Brisbane Roar and the Western Sydney Wanderers in a lively 1-1 draw at Perry Park.
Mia Corbin opened the scoring for the home side in the first half but Harding responded after the break, levelling the scores and helping the Wanderers to a third-straight game unbeaten, climbing up one place on the Liberty A-League table into ninth after Round 8.

MATCH REPORT: Glory return to Liberty A-League summit after draw with the Champions
Perth Gory are back on top of the Liberty A-League table, after going toe-to-toe with reigning champions Sydney FC in a hard-fought goalless draw on Sunday night.
Glory began the night one point behind Melbourne City but claimed top spot back off the Victorian side when the full-time whistle blew at Macedonia Park.
Sky Blues striker Fiona Worts had an early chance to break the deadlock, while Glory captain Tash Rigby’s close-range header in the second half drew a fantastic save out of Jada Whyman as both teams tried without success to break the deadlock.
A point for Sydney, meanwhile, helped the 2022-23 Premiership/Championship double winners jump back into the top six.
