The Australian Professional Leagues (APL) has announced the rescheduling of this weekend’s Liberty A-League fixture between Western Sydney Wanderers and Canberra United.
The fixture will now take place on Wednesday, March 13 at Wanderers Football Park, kicking off at 7.00pm AEDT.
The APL has been working with Western Sydney Wanderers FC and Canberra United for the last two weeks to explore several options for this fixture. This includes alternate venues and dates for this weekend and the coming months, as well as the possibility of reversing the fixtures.
The original fixture was scheduled to be played in Bathurst. Following a pitch inspection on Friday 3 November, Western Sydney Wanderers FC confirmed the clash will be moved back to Sydney following unseasonably cool conditions in Bathurst that had impacted the pitch’s preparation in the run-up to the fixture.
The home of the Western Sydney Wanderers, Wanderers Football Park, is also currently undergoing a scheduled turf renovation which was planned before the season – as originally the team was playing in Bathurst, and then away from home, leading into the December FIFA international window.
It is imperative that we have fit-for-purpose venues for all Liberty A-League Women games, these measures include; quality of pitch, broadcast infrastructure, commercial suitability, hospitality, security (including a completely enclosed ground), ticketing, fan and player facilities.
