Antonee Burke-Gilroy returns to Brisbane Roar on a mission: ‘I want to enjoy my football again’

Defending champions Central Coast Mariners will be looking for their first win when hosting Brisbane Roar in round four of the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Antonee Burke-Gilroy has re-joined Brisbane Roar for the remainder of the 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Burke-Gilroy is back in Brisbane for a second stint, having spent the past two seasons with Perth Glory, where he scored one goal in 34 appearances.

The 26-year-old full-back made his debut for the Roar in 2020-21 after signing as an injury-replacement player.

Burke-Gilroy, who is available for this week’s trip to defending champions Central Coast Mariners, also had spells abroad via Portuguese side Academica and Tacoma Defiance in the United States.

“It’s very exciting to be back, it’s a great city and a great club with great staff and great players, everyone’s made me feel very welcome so I just can’t wait to get started,” Burke-Gilroy said.

“I want to enjoy my football again, it’s a good atmosphere here at the moment, there’s a lot of good things happening at this club going forward, from the top to the bottom and I’m just excited to a part of it.”

Ross Aloisi’s Roar are looking to bounce back after last week’s 5-2 loss away to Wellington Phoenix in Round 3.

The Roar, who are seventh with four points from three games, are one of only four teams yet to concede a goal from a set-piece this season.
