Perth Glory forward Andy Keogh has beaten out a number of incredible strikes to claim Goal of the Year for the 2020/21 A-League campaign.
Keogh was awarded the top honour at the virtually-held Dolan Warren Awards on Wednesday, 23 June. His volleyed effort from just beyond the centre circle in Perth’s 5-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers in Matchweek 21 was chosen as Goal of the Year by a panel of appointed football experts voting on a shortlist of contenders.
Keogh came into his side’s Matchweek 21 clash with Western Sydney without a goal to his name for the 2020/21 campaign. That all changed on that night in Perth, as Keogh scored all four of his goals for the season in a rampant display against the Red and Black.
The second of Keogh’s four strikes was scored on the volley from ridiculous range, after the Glory man played a one-two with fellow striker Bruno Fornaroli.
After Keogh found Fornaroli with a header the ball was fed back to Keogh who dispatched a first-time volley just metres beyond the centre circle without taking a look at the target. The ball sailed high off his boot before dropping toward goal, catching Daniel Margush well off his line.
The Wanderers goalkeeper fell into his own net, failing to keep the shot off target as Keogh scored one of the most memorable goals the A-League has seen.
