‘We wanted to keep him’: Timmins, Stynes depart Perth via mutual consent

Perth Glory have mutually terminated the contracts of both Callum Timmins and Daniel Stynes, with the former turning down a two-year extension tabled by the club.

Timmins, 22, will end his second stint at the club with 44 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances to his name, after declining Perth’s offer to extend his current contract.

Perth’s head of recruitment Andy Keogh says the termination of the central midfielder’s contract was to ensure head coach Ruben Zadkovich didn’t have a member of his squad feeling disgruntled moving into the fresh campaign.

“Unfortunately for the club, we have mutually terminated Callum’s deal,” Keogh said.

“We offered him a new, two-year extension which was rejected a couple of weeks ago and Callum made his desire to move on clear after that.

“We wanted to keep him, but also did not want a disgruntled, unhappy player at the club.

“This is the business that we’re in today and which we will remain in until a domestic transfer system is put in place. We would like to thank Callum for his contribution and wish him the best of luck.”

Stynes joins Timmins in heading for the exit door after being notified Glory would be “going in a different direction” in 2022-23; he will pursue another opportunity at a new club after notching 36 ALM appearances in purple over two separate spells.

“We would like to thank Daniel for his service to the club,” Keogh said.

“It was a difficult decision to part ways, but we feel that the club is going in a different direction with a different kind of player.

“Daniel has been an absolute credit to himself and the club since he walked in the door and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

Stynes and Timmins take Perth’s off-season departures to 11.
