Ligue 1 giants Lyon announced Damien De Silva has departed France to join Melbourne Victory for the remainder of the Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Victory had been linked with the veteran centre-back following the retirement of former Socceroos defender Matthew Spiranovic.
After a drought-ending win over Wellington Phoenix on Friday night, Tony Popovic’s Victory are now set to be boosted by the arrival of former Ligue 1 captain Da Silva.
The 34-year-old last started for Laurent Blanc’s Lyon in January’s Coupe de France win over Metz.
Da Silva arrived at Lyon on a free transfer in 2021 and he amassed 29 appearances for the club.
He is a former captain of Rennes, where he was part of the club’s stunning Coupe de France triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
Da Silva also captained Rennes in the UEFA Champions League against Chelsea, Sevilla and Krasnodar in 2020-21.
