On Saturday afternoon the Adelaide United Youth Team will be facing Melbourne City Youth Team for the second time this season in Round seven of the Foxtel National Youth League.
After a few losses on the trot United turned the tables when they defeated the FFA Centre of Excellence away from home.
“I think they (the team) were pretty disappointed in the results up till now because we do believe we are a good team.” Said Adelaide United Youth Coach Michael Valkanis
“Last week was a really good performance in regards to; one we played really good football which was the most important, and two we got a result as we won away from home.
Knowing they are better than what they’ve shown throughout the season and coming off a dominant win against the FFA Football Centre of Excellence the team is full of confidence.
Adelaide is hopeful the form will continue through to this weekend where they’ll play Melbourne City.
The Last time these two teams met Melbourne City was able to push the Young Reds early before United then gained composure, winning in round one.
“I think they’re (Melbourne city) second on the ladder and the only team they’ve lost to this season”
“We’ll have to approach it (this week) more or less like last week where we had a complete focus and concentrate completely on our style (and) our game.”
Since the two met Melbourne have had the better run as they sit in second position in the ladder, and are also full of confidence.
“(We must) be mindful of some of the things they do in regards to the way they pressed us during the start of the last game, they did that very well, said Valkanis.
“But at the same time concentrate on our own game.”
And with a full squad and the possible return of Bruce Kamau, Adelaide will no doubt have the confidence to come home with back to back wins.
Not only would it install more confidence, another win away from home could have the Young Reds back in finals contention.
“The players look at the result and they want to win. Said Valkanis
“It’s a game that if we do win will keep us very close to the top teams, and keep us in the mix.
“We need to string a few wins together and I think that all of a sudden you’ll find yourself where you want to be on the ladder.”
Adelaide United Youth Team takes on Melbourne City Youth Team at La Trobe University, Melbourne. Kick off at 2:30pm (local time).
