The Newcastle Jets have signed 20-year-old Xavier Bertoncello to a scholarship deal for the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-2026 season.
Bertoncello started his football journey at New Lambton, before joining the Jets academy at the age of nine. He has since progressed through the academy ranks, becoming a regular starter for the youth team at the age of 16.
The forward made his debut for the club in this year’s Australia Cup campaign, starting against Adelaide United before scoring his first goal in the round of sixteen against Cooks Hill, topping it off with another in the semi-final against Avondale.

“I’m very happy to have signed my first contract with the Jets,” he said. “This is something that I’ve been dreaming of since I was nine when I first started in the academy. I’m excited to see what this season brings.”
Newcastle Jets Head Coach Mark Milligan added: “Xavier has been fantastic the last few seasons helping the youth team gain promotion through the NPL ranks. He has spent time training with the first team over the past season and the development he has shown with us through pre-season has been fantastic.
“Xavier has worked extremely hard for everything that he has got, matched with his desire to continue to learn are the traits we look for in all players. We are proud that we can reward another exciting young local footballer with a scholarship and look forward to his continued growth throughout the year.”
