This week, we matched two of the best to give you our Who-s Who in the W profile! Sally Shipard from the Westfield Matilda-s and Canberra United met up with friend and foe (depending on the tournament); Kyah Simon to give you some insights on this superstar of the future.
I took some time out mid-week to profile prolific Sydney FC striker and Westfield Matilda-s teammate Kyah Simon. Kyah has been identified as a superstar of the future; although only young her career to date is very impressive.
Since debuting for the Westfield Matilda-s in 2007, Kyah has appeared 22 times in the Green and Gold and scored the crucial winning penalty that secured victory in the Asian Cup earlier this year.
Hailing from the Western suburbs of Sydney, Kyah has come a long way since her first touch of the football to establish herself as a Matilda. She was 8 years old when convinced by her neighbours to head down to her local football club, Quakers Hill Soccer Club, “I just wanted to give it a shot” she said.
Kyah has excellent technique and blistering pace, her mind-s ability to anticipate an attack is further enhanced by her speed and agility. Her main focus is keeping a high intensity and staying in touch with the game. She believes one of her strengths is her ability for scoring critical goals.
Off the field Kyah struts a certain style, somewhat unique. Forgive me for this description Kyah, but I-m thinking a combination of punk/princess (princess seems appropriate as this is her nickname within the national team).
She is a gorgeous sight when dressed up in heels, hair worn down, make-up and the like. You only have to see the photos from the Australian Football Awards to be convinced. (insert link). What you might also notice is her eyebrow ring and a half shaved head (the punk). I think both looks are fantastic, and she works them both very well.
Combining Kyah-s infectious laughter off the pitch and her ability to influence a game, be it representing her country with the Westfield Matildas or playing for Sydney FC in the Westfield W-League, she has a very bright and influential career ahead of her.
Assuming Kyah continues to enjoy herself in regards to all things football, undoubtedly she will be one of the World-s leading female footballers.
I look forward to playing alongside her in years to come. Not to mention against her when Canberra United take on Sydney FC… And within our worlds…Fortunately…- “What happens on the field stays on the field.” 😉
My tip- Her pace with the ball at her feet is astonishing – in defence if you get too close you will regret it.
