Canberra United have snared the services of Australian teenage superstar Ellie Carpenter, with the youngster signing on in the nation’s capital for the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season.
Carpenter joined Canberra in 2017 after making her Westfield W-League breakthrough as a 15-year-old for Western Sydney Wanderers in 2015.
Since then, the Cowra-born defender’s meteoric rise with the Westfield Matildas has been one of the stories of Australian football.

“I’m excited to come back to Canberra,” Carpenter said.
“Last season was good, but we didn’t reach our full potential as a team.
“I know that Heather has aspirations of us making finals and winning the title this season, so I’m looking forward to coming back and helping the team to get there.
“I feel like I’ve grown a lot as a player and a person over the past six months,” she added.
“My game has definitely improved and I’m just excited to come back and play in the Westfield W-League.”
Carpenter returns to Australia following a successful season with Portland Thorns in the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League.
The fullback helped the Thorns reach their second straight NWSL decider and became the youngest scorer in the league’s history after netting a winner against Washington Spirit in May.
“Ellie is a special player and has a very promising first year in Canberra, so I’m looking forward to seeing what she can produce this season,” Canberra United coach Heather Garriock said.
“She thrived here last season and has the goal to be the best, and she’s an excellent role model for young Footballers in Canberra too.”
United open their Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season against defending Champions Melbourne City on Sunday, October 28.
