Adelaide United will aim to become the first team to win two Westfield FFA Cup titles when they meet Sydney FC in the final at Allianz Stadium next month.
Here’s how Marco Kurz’s men made it to the decider.
Round of 32: 1-0 over Newcastle Jets
It was a tightly contested match at the Marden Sports Complex but Adelaide prevailed thanks to a Michael Marrone header from a Johan Absalonsen corner.
Round of 16: 3-0 over Melbourne Victory
After a relatively cagey first-half of football, United’s intensity lifted following the re-start.
Johan Absalonsen rifled a shot from distance, arrowing into the far post, before George Blackwood doubled the hosts’ lead from the spot.
Nathan Konstandopoulos completed the rampant second-half display courtesy of a stunning curling effort.
Quarter-final: 3-0 over Heidelberg United
Nikola Mileusnic wrote his name all over this fixture at Olympic Park in Melbourne.
The winger became the first Red to bag a hat-trick in the Westfield FFA Cup and his goals punched Adelaide’s ticket to the Semi-finals.
Semi-final: 2-1 over Western Sydney Wanderers
Adelaide’s great Dane Johan Absalonsen was again to the fore, opening the scoring after just 13 minutes.
German Daniel Adlung doubled the advantage with a sweetly-struck shot from distance just before the hour mark.
Wanderers were awarded a penalty with 20 minutes to go, which Brendan Santalab converted (the first goal Adelaide had conceded in the Cup this year), but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Reds reaching their second Westfield FFA Cup final.
