Western United sign Colombian striker with ‘X-factor’: ‘Will get our fans on their feet’

Western United have signed exciting Colombian forward Sandra Ibarguen for the 2024-25 Ninja A-League season.

The 22-year-old Under-20 Colombia youth international has been backed by head coach Kat Smith to bring “X-factor” to Western United this upcoming campaign.

Ibarguen arrives from Deportivo Pasto, where she scored six goals in 12 matches amid a “burgeoning reputation” in her homeland.

“I can’t wait to get started. As a forward I like to score and create goals, so playing in a strong team also gives me the platform to contribute and play my best football,” she said ahead of the club’s Round 1 opener against Wellington Phoenix on November 1.

“I am sure I will learn a lot here and it would be a dream to win a trophy for the club.

“The facilities look great and building a connection with the fans is very important. I can’t wait to score my first goal at Ironbark Fields for Western.”

Ibarguen, who also scored seven goals during her time with Llaneros, is the 22nd contracted player at Western United heading into season 2024-25.
