Western United have boosted their Liberty A-League Championship hopes with the re-signing of Grace Maher ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Maher has signed a two-year contract extension after a memorable first season with the club in Tarneit.
The popular Australia youth international played every single minute in 2023-24 as she earned selection for the A-League All Stars Women side who played against Women’s Super League (WSL) giants Arsenal in May.
Maher believes Western, who were top of the standings at one point last season before losing in the Elimination Final after reaching the Grand Final in their inaugural campaign, can get their hands on silverware this term.
“I felt like I could be myself from the first week being a Western United player, and that’s a credit to the people behind this club,” said Maher.
“I’ve loved being able to help add some A-League experience to this side and I believe we have a squad that can go all the way this season.
“I’m really looking forward to settling back into our home from day one. Last season we got a little taste of how it can be out in Tarneit, but I feel like this season is the start of something incredible.”
Maher joins Kahli Johnson, Melissa Taranto, Adriana Taranto, Julia Sardo, Alyssa Dall’Oste, Natalie Picak and Aimee Medwin re-signing with Kat Smith’s Western.
Chloe Lincoln, Sasha Grove, Alana Cortellino and Sara Eggesvik have also arrived at Ironbark Fields.

“Grace went even beyond our expectations in her first season at the club and we are extremely pleased that she has committed to our vision for a further two years,” said general manager of football Mal Impiombato.
“She is loved by her peers and club staff, adored by our supporters and recognised externally as one of the competition’s leading players, so to have her remaining as a key pillar in our program is a significant boost.
“After one incredible season, we are looking forward to seeing Grace strive for the next step as one of our nation’s best players and set ambitious goals for the future of her career.”
