Coach’s powerful A-Leagues message that everyone needs to hear

Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Alen Stajcic delivered a passionate message as he lauded the quality of the Isuzu UTE A-League and the talent coming through.

Stajcic was speaking after Western Sydney’s entertaining 2-2 draw away to Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Saturday night, with the Wanderers boss highlighting Jordan Lauton’s 95th-minute wondergoal on Friday.

Academy graduate Lauton scored one of the all-time great goals in the history of the competition as Western United scored twice in injury time to stun Perth Glory 3-2 in Western Australia.

Former CommBank Matildas, Central Coast Mariners and Glory coach Stajcic used the 21-year-old’s incredible bicycle kick to highlight the quality of the league.

“Probably for me the best goal in the history of the A-League in terms of moment and quality,” Stajcic told reporters.

“I was just staggered by the quality of the finish. I know it’s on social media how good our league actually is but we need to promote the facts. There’s so many kids playing – Melbourne City put out a team of kids the other day with virtually a Championship-winning team in the stands and they could dominate a whole game.

“We have so much talent in this country, so much quality in this league and a lot of good kids coming through and they’re getting an opportunity at various clubs.

“We should be proud of our league. I think we should be promoting our league. I think there’s too much negativity around our league. I think there’s too much vitriol on social media about our league.

“I think it’s incumbent on all of us, from the fans to the media and social media actually be positive about our league and look at the great moments that happen.”
