De Laet makes City history as Wanderers set unwanted record
De Laet scored a brace in Melbourne City’s 4-3 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers, and his opener set a new mark for the club.
The Belgian needed just 31 seconds to score, his effort the fastest ever netted for City in the Hyundai A-League. It was also the quickest goal since Nicolas Martinez (20 seconds) for the Wanderers in November 2016.
After Luke Brattan restored City’s lead following Roly Bonevacia’s equaliser from the penalty spot, the Wanderers went ahead through Tass Mourdoukoutas and Jaushua Sotirio.
But against 10 men, De Laet and Bart Schenkeveld struck late as City extended their unbeaten run against the Wanderers at AAMI Park to five games.
Wanderers goalkeeper Nick Suman, 18, became just the fifth shot-stopper to make at least seven saves in a game this season, but Western Sydney’s losing run stretched to a club-record six matches.

Weekdays wonderful for Adelaide
Adelaide United really enjoy having the weekend off.
A 0-0 draw against Perth Glory saw the Reds extend an unusual unbeaten run – they are now undefeated in 14 Hyundai A-League games played on weekdays.
Adelaide fell short of ending a long wait for back-to-back wins at HBF Park, where they last claimed successive victories in 2005 and 2006.

Petratos joins elite club in Jets’ latest F3 Derby win
Dimitri Petratos has found his best form for the Newcastle Jets.
The attacker created seven chances in the Jets’ 1-0 derby win over the Central Coast Mariners, leading Newcastle to a fifth straight victory in the fixture.
Just a round after Adelaide United star Craig Goodwin became the first player to create seven scoring chances three times in a season, Petratos joined him in that club.
The duo are alongside Thomas Broich and Aaron Mooy in having reached that mark three times overall.
Kaine Sheppard’s second-half goal was enough for the Jets, who extended the Mariners’ winless run away from home in the league to 18 games.

Redmayne to the rescue as Sydney continues to love Wellington
A trip to Westpac Stadium may just about be welcomed by Sydney FC.
The Sky Blues recorded a 1-0 win over Wellington and are now unbeaten in seven visits to the venue to face the Phoenix.
After Siem de Jong’s first-half opener, Sydney needed a late penalty save from Andrew Redmayne to secure the three points.
Redmayne denied Roy Krishna for his second penalty stop of the season, joining Lawrence Thomas and Eugene Galekovic on that tally.
