Natasha Dowie became Melbourne Victory’s joint all-time top goalscorer in earning her side a 1-1 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers at Lakeside Stadium on Friday night.
The Victory skipper turned home a rebound after the hour to cancel out Erica Halloway’s first half opener and secure a valuable point for the home side.
Dowie’s strike was her 14th in 23 Westfield W-League appearances and took her level with Caitlin Friend at the top of the club’s scoring charts.
Play had to be halted due to a thunderstorm in the first half and Wanderers used used the interlude to good effect, co-captain Halloway finding the target just prior to half-time.
But the visitors were ultimately left frustrated as England international Dowie denied them a spot in the top six and kept the two teams level on four points.
