Kevin Muscat says he wants to win more silverware with Melbourne Victory before he contemplates furthering his coaching career outside of the Hyundai A-League.
Muscat enjoyed stunning success in his first full season in charge of Victory, guiding the club to both the Championship and Premiers’ Plate last season.
Known as a hard-man during his playing career, Victory played some breath-taking football under Muscat on the way to winning the double.
It’s ensured Muscat’s stocks as a coach have sky-rocketed, fueling speculation the 42-year-old could be ready for the next step – coaching abroad.
While he won’t rule it out, Muscat insists he wants to achieve more success with Victory before thinking about his next coaching chapter. Â
“I wouldn’t put a ceiling on anything,” he told SEN.
“But I’ve been around long enough in a professional environment to know you’re judged on what you do tomorrow, not what you’ve done yesterday. I won’t look too far ahead.
“Of course, I’ve got aspirations. I’ll reach for the stars and if I fall somewhere short, great.Â
“At this point in time I’m driven by one thing and that’s to bring some more success to this football club. And we all know what success looks like at Melbourne Victory.”
Muscat’s first focus will be preparing his side for a tricky trip to Sydney next Tuesday for a round of 16 Westfield FFA Cup clash with PS4 NSW NPL club Rockdale City Suns.
While Victory will start heavy favourites at WIN Jubilee Oval, they will be wary of Paul Reid’s outfit, which has A-League experience in their ranks with the likes of Dylan Macallister, Marko Jesic, Ivan Necevski and Alec Urosevski, not to mention the eye-catching winger Toufic Alameddine.
Youngsters Scott Galloway, Connor Pain and Jason Geria are also unavailable for Victory due to Olyroos selection.
