Positive words from coach Ange Postecoglou have Melbourne Victory attacker James Troisi itching to impress on his season-long loan at the club.
Troisi, 25, joins a star-studded Victory on loan from Serie A side Atalanta in what will be his first stint in the A-League.
The nine-time Socceroo has enjoyed spells at Newcastle United and Turkish sides Genclerbirligi and Kayserispor and Atalanta after leaving Australia.
Troisi, who joined Victory for training in Tasmania on Friday, is excited about having an opportunity to get regular playing time.
“I’ve travelled the world a little bit but it’s been a good experience and obviously for me to get back to playing regularly,” he said.
“I had a good chat with the gaffer and had some good things to say so I’m really looking forward to this new journey.”
In captain Mark Milligan, Socceroos regular Archie Thompson and Victory stalwarts Adrian Leijer and Leigh Broxham, Troisi recognised familiar faces at the club.
Even feeling jet-lagged during his first session, Troisi said he had been impressed by the quality of Postecoglou’s side.
“It’s the biggest club in the A-League,” Troisi said.
“Today was my first training, quality is good and Ange expects big things from the players.
“I’m really looking forward to it and getting to Melbourne and seeing the facilities. I’ve heard they are really nice as well.
“First home game there’s going to be about 50,000 people (against Melbourne Heart) so it’s going to be fantastic.”
Troisi is looking forward to showing what he can do during his first chance in the A-League.
“I’m excited to be back here,” he said.
“Not many people have seen me play so it’s going to be exciting for me and hopefully the fans as well.”
