Australian duo Dario Vidosic and Michael Thwaite are now free agents after terminating their contracts with Chinese Super League club Liaoning Whowin after intervention from the PFA.
The pair were both contracted for the upcoming season but mutually agreed to end their time at the club, with Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) intervening to help finalise the process.
With recent changes to the CSL foreign player rules, it was increasingly likely both Vidosic and Thwaite would be surplus to requirements at the club.
“The PFA were instrumental in ensuring we achieved an outcome that we are all happy with and making sure throughout the process that our rights were protected,” said 33-year-old Thwaite, who made 25 appearances for the club last season.
Vidosic, who played 13 times for Liaoning, also praised the PFA for their assistance and was relieved the matter was now over and he can focus on finding a new club.
“Navigating matters such as this can be difficult, but having the support of PFA meant that I could get it resolved quickly and resume my career with a new club,” the former Western Sydney Wanderers star said.
“I wish the club all the best for the upcoming season and I’m looking forward to the next chapter.”
With the pair now free agents, they can sign for any club and there has been speculation they both could be set for a return to the Hyundai A-League.
Thwaite was linked with a possible move to Sydney FC last month before the Sky Blues signed Dutch defender Jordy Buijs.
Vidosic spent two seasons at Adelaide United between 2011 and ’13, scoring 15 goals in 51 appearances.
