Adelaide United have confirmed the signing of Dutch prospect Julian Kwaaitaal from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in a fascinating transfer coup.
The 19-year-old has penned a three-year deal with the Reds with an option to extend for a further year, however he has immediately been loaned to Dutch second division side FC Eindhoven.
Given the loan move, Kwaaitaal will not be taking up a visa spot in the Adelaide United squad list for the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
An attacking right winger, he joined the PSV Eindhoven academy in 2019 under the leadership of Adelaide United’s new Technical Director Ernest Faber and his arrival appears to be the result of a burgeoning partnership between the two clubs.
“Having worked with Julian for the last five years, he has shown some exciting potential,” Faber stated.
“Julian is a dynamic player with a keen sense of the game, and his technical skills have developed significantly.
“This loan move will be important for his growth, offering him regular first-team football in a competitive environment.

“We look forward to watching him make this next step in his career and believe he has a bright future ahead.”
Announced in April, Adelaide and PSV agreed a ‘mutually beneficial exchange’ which was to grant the A-Leagues club greater access to overseas talent and benefit its youth and coaching development pathways.
The Reds had already sent some promising youngsters over to Eindhoven to train at PSV and this deal represents another opportunity as a result of the partnership.
At the time, Adelaide chairman Morris said: “PSV is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has a proven track record of developing some of the most talented players. On and off the pitch, PSV is achieving great successes,” Morris said.
“As a club, we are committed to developing young players and giving them opportunities. Being able to apprentice with PSV will certainly have a beneficial effect on Adelaide United’s players and coaches.
“At the same time, we know we are doing a lot of things very well in the A-League and will try to share our football vision and operational knowledge with PSV’s.”
