After impressing for Newcastle Jets on an injury replacement deal last season, goalkeeper Tiahna Robertson has earned a spot in the club’s squad for the 2024-25 Liberty A-League season.
Robertson was parachuted into the Newcastle squad for the final round of last season and her starring role in an 8-0 win – which included seven saves for the debutant – saw the 21-year-old burst onto the Liberty A-League scene.
Two more appearances were to come for Robertson at the Jets in season 2023-24 – with games two and three of her Newcastle career coming in the Finals Series.
After her whirlwind introduction to the competition, Robertson is back in the Liberty A-League – this time for a full season, in a Newcastle goalkeeping unit featuring off-season signing Danielle Krzyzaniak.
“I’m excited and grateful to get the opportunity to come back and play for my hometown club again,” said Robertson, a former Jets academy player.
“Being able to make my debut and play finals was a good experience for me and I can’t wait to get back into it. I’m looking forward to a successful season ahead with the team, continuing my footballing journey here at home in front of the fans and family.”
Jets head coach Ryan Campbell added: “I am very pleased that we have been able to secure Tiahna for this season. When she came in towards the end of the season her attitude in training and in games was exemplary.
“Her ability to build up from the back is a key strength and this is something that we are really looking to implement this year.
“Her attitude towards development is also something that will add to our squad. We saw how she stepped in and performed last year so I am excited to see what we can get once she has completed a full pre-season.”
