Ins & Outs Round 17: Sydney star ‘tracking well’ for surprise injury comeback

The teams are IN ahead of Round 17 of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Sydney FC have received a boost ahead of their home game against Adelaide United on Saturday, with Brazilian star Douglas Costa included in head coach Ufuk Talay’s squad with the view of a potential return from a hamstring injury suffered in late December.

Initially ruled out for six to eight weeks with the hamstring injury, Costa returned to training this week and, despite admitting the Brazilian is “still not 100%” heading into Round 17, Talay suggested he could have a part to play in Saturday’s clash with the Reds at Allianz Stadium.

“Douglas is tracking well,” Talay said.

“He joined the team this week so he’s actually done some work with the team. He’s still not 100% but we’ll see whether we utilise him this weekend, put him on the bench and hopefully have him available for the Wanderers game.”

Read on for all the team news ahead of Round 17.

*Wellington Phoenix have the bye, whilst Melbourne City and Western United sit out the weekend action having already played their Round 17 fixture in early January.
