Sydney FC have recruited New Zealand international Brianna Edwards, with Matildas goalkeeper Jada Whyman “expected to agree terms with an overseas club”.
Edwards joins the “title-winning dynasty” at the Liberty A-League champions on a two-year deal following her departure from Wellington Phoenix at the end of 2023-24.
The Sydney-born goalkeeper now appears set to replace Whyman at the Sky Blues heading into next season.

As Sydney FC announced the arrival of Edwards, head coach Ante Juric addressed the future of two-time Liberty A-League champion Whyman in the Harbour City, where she has been based since 2020.
“We are still in negotiations with Jada and would like to be able to sign her, however she is expected to agree terms with an overseas club,” he revealed.
Edwards, a one-time Football Fern, joins a Sydney side eyeing a Championship three-peat in 2024-25.
“It’s really exciting to be joining my home-town club and helping to continue this title-winning dynasty,” she said.
“I can’t wait to get going and start my fight for a place in the starting line-up. I grew up playing in the local area so it’s nice to be returning home to my roots.”
Juric added: “Brianna is an important and a great addition to our team.
“She has proven to be a very good keeper over the past few years and she will fit in very well at Sydney FC.
“I see Brianna flourishing at the club and working her way to yet another level. We welcome her to the club.”
The Sky Blues, meanwhile, have also announced the release of two-time Championship-winning striker Jynaya Dos Santos from the final year of her contract.
Sydney have granted an early release to allow the Young Matilda – who scored one goal in nine appearances – to pursue more starting opportunities elsewhere in the Liberty A-League.
“Jynaya has made some very important contributions to us over the past two seasons, and we wish her well,” Juric said.
