Amber Luchtmeijer will have her first taste of Liberty A-League football after the young gun was unveiled by champions Sydney FC.
Luchtmeijer tops the Golden Boot charts in NPLW NSW this season and the 17-year-old striker has been rewarded with a Sydney contract for the 2024-25 campaign – fulfilling a childhood dream.
“I’m super excited and overjoyed to be joining Sydney FC,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to working in the professional space and against more of the girls that play there.
“To make the step up to the A-League is something I have dreamed of since the age of five and it’s just super exciting.
“Getting on the score sheet in the A-League would be pretty amazing but I just want to improve as a player and get used to performing in the professional space, but goals would definitely be a bonus.”
It has been a breakout season for Luchtmeijer following her arrival from Blacktown Spartans ahead of the 2024 campaign.
NOMINEES: A-Leagues stars & young guns nominated for prestigious PFA Awards
Potentially the “signing of the season” according to NPL NSW, the young forward swapped her junior club Blacktown for the Bulls – under the umbrella of A-Leagues side Macarthur FC – having endured a relegation battle with the Spartans.
The Year 12 student, who has spoken previously of her dream to play in the A-Leagues, has flourished in her new surrounds in Campbelltown, where she has already scored a hat-trick this season.
“Amber is a star of the future in Sydney FC’s eyes, she is very quick, has an excellent eye for goal and finishes with great maturity,” said Sydney head coach Ante Juric.
“She is a natural goalscorer and has had a break out year in the NPL. She has a lot of potential and I believe she can step up to this level.
“I am looking forward to working with her and helping her to flourish into a confident A-League Women’s player.”
Luchtmeijer is Sydney’s second new signing after British forward Millie Farrow‘s arrival from Perth Glory.
The Sky Blues have also re-signed Mackenzie Hawkesby, Kirsty Fenton (2025-26) and Jordan Thompson (2024-25) after the departures of Cortnee Vine (North Carolina Courage), Charlotte McLean (North Carolina Courage), Taylor Ray, Darcey Malone, Zara Kruger, Teigan Collister, Aideen Keane and Lucy Johnson.
