Sydney FC are top of the table and flying high after dismantling Isuzu UTE A-League rivals Melbourne Victory 3-0 in the Big Blue.
Joe Lolley put on a show with two goals in 21 second-half minutes as the Sky Blues blitzed struggling Victory – Grand Finalists in the past two seasons – to move to the summit on Saturday night.
In front of a packed crowd at Leichhardt Oval following the international break, Sydney controlled proceedings from the outside but had little to show for it until Lolley broke the deadlock in the 58th minute.
While CommBank Socceroos pair Al Hassan Toure and Paul Okon-Engstler were in the starting XI after making their Australia debuts, it was Lolley’s masterclass that inspire the Sky Blues.
After his superb first-time finish approaching the hour-mark, the Englishman then produced a stunning solo run that started just outside his own penalty box before finding the back of the net 12 minutes from the end.
Sydney defender Alex Grant completed the scoring six minutes later as Ufuk Talay’s men celebrated a fourth successive win.
Nikos Vergos hit the woodwork late on for 10th-placed Victory, who made it back-to-back games without scoring.
