Stubbins plays down Griffiths bust-up at training

Griffiths was one of five senior players cut by the Jets in controversial circumstances three weeks ago who continues to front up for training while the dispute over termination payments drag on.

While they have been allowed to take part in warming up with the rest of the squad, the exiled players have been forced to then train on their own for the rest of the session.

Thursday’s session reportedly featured a screaming match when Stubbins attempted to isolate Griffiths and another sacked player David Carney from the main group.

 

Stubbins tried to play down the commotion after training.

“No, I don’t think it’s toxic,” he said when asked by reporters about the atmosphere around the camp. 

“We’ve just had what we’ve had – the same thing happening at training every day.

“Obviously, there is some angst from the boys not being able to be a full part of everything moving forward.

“I don’t know about it getting worse before it gets better. It is what it is and we are managing it the best we can and that’s the situation at the moment.

“The sooner we can put an end to it and everyone can get a genuine direction of where they are going with some real clarity, I think it is going to be better for everybody,” Stubbins said.

The Jets play Western Sydney Wanderers at Hunter Stadium on Saturday night.
