Bruno Fornaroli has enjoyed remarkable success since he joined Melbourne City and Sunday’s clash with Central Coast Mariners marks another milestone for the Uruguayan.
The City goal-machine will make his 50th Hyundai A-League appearance when he runs out in Gosford.

And while we’re on stats, check this out…
Bruno’s goals per game
What’s more, Fornaroli’s strike-rate of goals-per-game over his first 49 appearances in the competition is phenomenal.
Since joining City at the start of the 2015/16 Season, the 29-year-old has amassed 38 goals.
That averages out to 0.78 goals per game, the most frequent on any player in the competition’s history.
One former Sydney FC player is the closest to Fornaroli’s figure in Marc Janko, who scored 16 times in his 24 appearances.
Rounding out the top five is current stars Besart Berisha from Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar’s Jamie Maclaren.
The duo have played far more games than Fornaroli and have scored more goals but can’t match his potency.
- Berisha’s 98 goals in 151 appearances gives him a goals-per-game ratio of 0.65, while Maclaren’s sits at 0.51 with 42 goals in 83 games for Roar and Perth Glory.
Bruno: comparing seasons
Given his astonishing debut campaign, where he scored 25 goals in 29 matches, it was always going to be tough for Fornaroli to replicate those numbers in the 2016/17 Season.
And it’s proved the case as his numbers across a number of areas have dropped in this campaign.
- Fornaroli’s shooting accuracy this season is at 58.5%, down from 66.7% last season, while his conversion rate has also dropped slightly, 27.8% last season to 24.5% this campaign.
- But he’s still managed 13 goals for the season to sit second in the race for the golden boot after 21 rounds, four behind Victory’s Berisha.
Perhaps the most telling stat is Fornaroli’s assist tally. While he had five assists during the 2015/16 Season, Fornaroli has yet to set up one goal for teammates in this campaign.
There are also six penalties in his tally of 13 goals this season, while he didn’t score any goals from the spot in his debut campaign.
